    And one weeps in grief—his cheeks beneath his tears

    are like the cheek of a cup adorned with bubbles.

    يدافع عنها طرفهُ ويمانع

    So I have seen no garden lovelier than his beauty;

    his gaze defends it and bars access.

    In it are tender daisies and dewy narcissi,

    and the fresh myrtle of his cheek-down, and roses in bloom.

    And I never knew that the sword of his glances,

    when its edge grows dull, is sharpened by tears.

    And it is beyond dispute that every Indian-steel sword,

    when water courses through it, has a keen edge.
