Turn aside to the sanctuary: its boughs are slender-waisted.
His branches trembled with feverish thrills
And beware the dune's graceful women and its wide-eyed beauties.
Beware the dune's ridge and its eyes

One who is drowsy-eyed, as though his glances
He whose teeth were a cloak as though
Had tipped his people's slender spears in his defense.
His tribe's swords unsheathed around him

What escape is there for one whose passion is his abasement
How can one whose love is his abasement be saved
In loving him, and whose wish is the stroke of his own doom?
His passion and grace still doubted

I would scarcely have been overcome by the armies of his beauty,
His beauty's armies almost defeated me
Had his cheek-down not reinforced them with its ambush force.
If not for coyness laying its ambush

Like a sword, you know his edge through his estrangement—
Like a sword you know its sharpness through estrangement
Harsh—and know his flat side through his gentleness.
Rough yet its surface known by gentleness

He bestowed his figure's suppleness upon the branches,
He sways his frame's limbs gently towards the branches
And lent the lovesick lover's body his eyelids' languor.
And lends his young body the sickness of his eyelids

For his lover, opposites confront one another
Opposites meet in love
In his beauty, and thus reveal his hidden essence.
Revealing his beauty from its hiding

So he stood for the soundness of his speech,
So his words regained health
And his forelock's darkness against the dawn of his brow.
And the darkness of his absence dawned on his forehead
