وسمعتُ تغريد الحمام ووصفهُ
And in gardens at a valley bend I buried sorrow,
In gardens of sorrow I buried my grief
And I heard the doves' warbling and their telling.
And heard the cooing of doves describing it

من لذَّة النغماتِ يثني عطفهُ
And I saw a bān-tree bough above their pool,
And saw a supple branch above its pond
Bending its side in delight at the melodies.
Bend its shoulder in pleasure of the melodies
فكأنَّso, as though فارسa horseman بهمةٍfearless سيمwas called to الوغىbattle
فكأنَّ فارس بهمةٍ سيم الوغى
ركزَplanted القناةَthe lance بهاin them وألقىand cast off زغفهُhis mail
ركزَ القناةَ بها وألقى زغفهُ
So it was as though a fearless horseman, called to battle,
As if a valiant horseman of battle's din
Had planted his lance there and cast off his mail.
Fixed his spear in the earth and cast his cloak
