And one of slender figure, whose mouth is honey-sweet—

My love for his eyes is washed clean of impurity.

His eye's watering-place stirs my heart's burning thirst,

And it has flowed smoothly beneath a dusky shade.

As though it were a drop of water from a river bend,

The breeze passed over it, cool of breath.

He led the wine as a bride to her suitors, and unveiled

A face of dawn amid hair of pre-dawn gloom.

And the rain weeps, while the earth's face smiles:

So the sky is in mourning, and the earth at a wedding.

He walks, and I set my mind to work as he carries her,

Marveling: how does the full moon walk within a flame?

And I spent the night while the clouds had drawn their curtains,

When they saw the bright stars' eyes like sentries.

I dally with a full moon of night, untainted by

Visible dark spots, and a dune-gazelle unblemished by baseness.
