And a languid, dark-eyed youth—before loving him, I had never
Before his love I was not like Ahwur's willow,
Known what longing for a languid, dark-eyed youth was.
To know what passion dwells in Ahwur's willow.

He shows you a radiant forehead beneath a forelock,
You see a shining brow beneath a fillet,
Like dawn’s secret in the hearts of dark nights.
Like dawn's first light within a silken veil.

When he feathers the arrow of his two eyes with his lashes,
When by his glances' arrows he is stricken,
And though he is [peaceful], on a day without battle,
Though not a day of storming winds and rain,

He begins stringing a bow fashioned from his [eyebrows],
Next day for solace he is madness-smitten,
The translucent space between them forming its ivory grip.
With cheeks like liquid pearls in ivory pale.
