وأخٍ لنا لزمَ التجنّي

وأخٍ لنا لزمَ التجنّي

واعتذرتُ لهُ فلمْ

واعتذرتُ لهُ فلمْ

And a brother of ours persisted in unjust blame,

A brother of ours persisted in withdrawal

and I apologized to him, but he did not...

And I made excuses, but to no avail

ولئن أطال عتبتهُ

ولئن أطال عتبتهُ

عتبَ الحكيم أتى الحكمْ

عتبَ الحكيم أتى الحكمْ

And if he persisted, I reproached him

And if he prolongs his reproach

with a sage’s reproach, offering words of wisdom.

A wise man's blame leads to wisdom
