فماfor ... not يهتديfinds guidance عجلٌa calf يكونis بلاwithout عقلِsense
Overlook al-ʿUjayl’s base deeds and his ignorance;
He surpassed the hasty ignorance of this world,
for a calf without sense cannot find its way.
For no hastiness can be guided without intellect.

فيكفيهso it suffices it ماwhat فيهاis within it منof البردcoldness والثقلand heaviness
He hurled his spirit at al-Inkitār’s army;
The army of denial threw away its soul,
so the coldness and heaviness within it suffice for that army.
The cold and heaviness within it suffice.

He alights on his food more readily than a fly;
I look down on what wrongs he feeds on,
and carries tales among them more busily than ants.
And move on from them to talk of ants.

God, the Mighty, afflicted them with him, for he
God afflicted them with His mighty power,
is worse than the plague in a time of drought.
More severe than plague in a time of decline.

A keen sword—but he severs bonds of affection;
A sword, but its edge is for loving-kindness,
he is drawn to sow discord among close friends, not to kill.
A scent for corrupting false friends, not killing.

So procure him a sandal to adorn his hide;
So prepare a scabbard to adorn its blade,
for a polished sword cannot do without its shoe.
For the polished sword cannot be without a sheath.
