لِقاؤُكَ عامُهُ يَومٌ قَصيرٌ

لِقاؤُكَ عامُهُ يَومٌ قَصيرٌ

لَدَيَّ وَيَومَ لا أَلقاكَ عامُ

لَدَيَّ وَيَومَ لا أَلقاكَ عامُ

A year of seeing you is a brief day

Meeting you, each year is a short day for me

To me; and a day when I do not see you is a year.

And a day I don't meet you feels like a year

وَما هَذا التَفَرُّقُ بِاِختِياري

وَما هَذا التَفَرُّقُ بِاِختِياري

وَلَكِن طالَما عَزَّ المَرامُ

وَلَكِن طالَما عَزَّ المَرامُ

This separation is not of my choosing,

It's not by my choice we're apart

But often the desired goal is hard to attain.

But it's so hard to fulfill my hopes

عَداني أَن أَزُورَكَ حادِثاتٌ

عَداني أَن أَزُورَكَ حادِثاتٌ

إِذا ذُكِرَت تَذوبُ لَها العِظامُ

إِذا ذُكِرَت تَذوبُ لَها العِظامُ

Misfortunes have kept me from visiting you;

Circumstances have kept me from visiting you

At their mention, the bones melt.

Speaking of them melts my bones

مَتى رُمتَ النُهوضَ تَعَلَّقَت بي

مَتى رُمتَ النُهوضَ تَعَلَّقَت بي

هُمُومٌ لا تُنيمُ وَلا تَنامُ

هُمُومٌ لا تُنيمُ وَلا تَنامُ

Whenever you sought to rise, there clung to me

Whenever I thought of coming, worries clung to me

Cares that neither let me sleep nor sleep themselves.

Worries that won't let me sleep or rest

إِذا هَمٌّ أَطَقتُ بِهِ قِياماً

إِذا هَمٌّ أَطَقتُ بِهِ قِياماً

أَتى ما لا يُطاقُ بِهِ قِيامُ

أَتى ما لا يُطاقُ بِهِ قِيامُ

If I can stand beneath one care,

When faced with a trouble I could withstand awake

Another comes beneath which no one can stand.

Something unbearable would come

فَلا تَتَوَهَّمَن لِيَ عَنكَ صَبراً

فَلا تَتَوَهَّمَن لِيَ عَنكَ صَبراً

مَتى صَبِرَت عَنِ الماءِ الحيامُ

مَتى صَبِرَت عَنِ الماءِ الحيامُ

So never imagine I can endure being apart from you:

So don't imagine I can be patient without you

When have thirst-stricken camels ever endured being without water?

When have the thirsty been patient without water?

فَلَو في الخُلدِ كُنتُ وَلَم أُمَتَّع

فَلَو في الخُلدِ كُنتُ وَلَم أُمَتَّع

بِقُربِكَ لَم يَلَذَّ لِيَ المُقامُ

بِقُربِكَ لَم يَلَذَّ لِيَ المُقامُ

For if I were in Paradise, yet were not allowed to enjoy

Even if I lived forever and didn't get

Your nearness, my stay would bring me no delight.

To be close to you, the stay wouldn't be sweet

عَلَيكَ وَكُلِّ أَرضٍ أَنتَ فيها

عَلَيكَ وَكُلِّ أَرضٍ أَنتَ فيها

مِنَ اللَهِ التَحِيَّةُ وَالسَلامُ

مِنَ اللَهِ التَحِيَّةُ وَالسَلامُ

Upon you, and every land where you are,

To you and every land you're in
