أَتانيcame to me كِتابٌa letter مِنكَfrom you عَظَّمتُI exalted قَدرَهُits worth
أَتاني كِتابٌ مِنكَ عَظَّمتُ قَدرَهُ
كَماjust as عَظَّمَتexalted قَدرَthe worth of المَسيحِthe Messiah التَلامِذُthe disciples
كَما عَظَّمَت قَدرَ المَسيحِ التَلامِذُ
A letter from you reached me, and I held it in high esteem,
A letter came to me from you, I magnified its worth
Just as the disciples held the Messiah in high esteem.
As the disciples magnified the worth of the Messiah
وَعَلَّقتُهُand I hung it فيon الصَدرِthe chest مِنّيof mine كَرامَةًin honor
وَعَلَّقتُهُ في الصَدرِ مِنّي كَرامَةً
كَماjust as عُلِّقَتwere hung صَدرَthe chest of الوَليدِthe newborn التَعاوِذُprotective amulets
كَما عُلِّقَت صَدرَ الوَليدِ التَعاوِذُ
And I hung it on my chest as a mark of honor,
And I hung it from my chest out of my esteem
Just as amulets are hung upon a newborn's chest.
As talismans were hung from Al-Walid's chest
