هي قذ وتوأم ورقيب

هي قذ وتوأم ورقيب

ثم حلس ونافس ثم مسبل

ثم حلس ونافس ثم مسبل

They are Qadh, Tawʾam, and Raqīb,

She is a necklace and a twin and a companion

Then Ḥils and Nāfis, then Musbil,

Then settled and competed then flowed

والمعلى والوغد ثم سفيح

والمعلى والوغد ثم سفيح

ومنيح وذي الثلاثة تهمل

ومنيح وذي الثلاثة تهمل

And Muʿallā and Waghd, then Safīḥ,

And the exalted and the scoundrel then obscene

And Manīḥ—and these three are disregarded.

And fine and the one with three accusations is neglected

ولكل مما عداها نصيب

ولكل مما عداها نصيب

مثله ان تعد أول أوّل

مثله ان تعد أول أوّل

Each of the others has an allotted share,

And for each of what is beyond it there is a share

Matching its place, if you count them one by one.

The like of it, if you count the very first
