ما على من وصاله الصبح لو ق
صرshorten (remaining fragment of قصر) منof ليلnight هجرهhis estrangement ماthat which أطالهhe prolonged it
صر من ليل هجره ما أطاله
What harm would it do him whose union is dawn to shorten
the night of his estrangement, which he has prolonged?
ألفىalif-like القوامin stature عنيaway from me أمالوthey turned
ألفى القوام عني أمالو
هhim فقلبيso my heart مكسورbroken تلكthat الإمالهbending
ه فقلبي مكسور تلك الإماله
They turned the one straight as an alif in stature away from me;
so my heart is broken by that bending.
