Sulayma has gone far from you, and your heart is wounded.
Sulayma comes to you, and the heart is bleak,
And none can bring relief to the heart’s desires.
There is no comfort for the needs of a bleak heart,

When you taste her mouth, you say: ‘The taste of aged wine—
If you taste her mouth, you would say a drink
diluted, loosening the waistcloth, ladled out
Of sparkling wine that reveals the thigh's wrap, decanter,

With water from clouds in silver jugs
it commands a price that brings its sellers profit.’
That has a price with the sellers sweeping,

Look closely, my friend: do you see women in howdahs,
Look, my friend, do you see any from slanderous women
Yemeni, traveling at dawn and dusk,
Yemeni who wakes up and goes away,

like ships floating over the crests of a deep sea,
Like the swimming of a boat in rough seas
rocked by a wind in the waters of the Tigris?
That a wind capsizes it in the water of the Tigris,

Its sides cover Al-Mutalif and overlook upon them reddish clouds
upon them are red-haired Jews, leaning forward.
From Jews extend,
وَقَدand often أَغتَديI set out at dawn قَبلَbefore الغَطاطِthe sandgrouse وَصاحِبيand my companion

And often I ride out before the sandgrouse; my companion is
And she fed before dinner and my companion
sound of shank, supple-chested, swimming in his stride.
The trustworthy neighbor, soft of butter, glorious,

When a leg urges him on, you would say: a wide-legged beast,
If the leg moves it you would say a kept aside
sleek, nourished by renewed rain and open grazing.
Green tender fed heritage and cypresses,

His pastures are the level plains; solitary, he is like
Its pastures are the meadows, a stallion as if
a horn-battered bull when gazelles walk beside him.
When the deer accompany his walk, a fighter,

Then a clan rose against him one morning and unleashed
So a living tribe attacked him in the morning and made
dogs; every trained hound strains in pursuit.
Dogs so all predators flee,

If they fear its reach, the pillars of the lower

مُشَلشِلَةٌ فَوقَ النِطاقِ تَفوحُ
And often I leave an armored foe, his breast bearing
And I let the curly horn in its chest
a streaming wound above his belt, gushing forth,
Disheveled above the belt smelly,

Repels for the fingertips of mud a thick,
after fresh blood wells up, it gurgles as it flows.
After the nails look, snorting,

When a troop of gazelles comes to visit him,
If a group of deer comes counting it
they hasten in, scattered, each one wailing.
They compete, all moan,
