May al-Rabab be watered by a cloud with thunderous—

    flanks and brightly flashing lightning,

dark, rolled along by the east wind

at night, its fierce wind milking it

as a hired hand milks his pregnant she-camels,

until, when its veins flow freely,

and it draws near, its pouring rain aglow,

    like a forest kindled by its blaze;

    until, when its capacity

is overtaxed by water and it can bear it no longer,

    there rises behind it

a Yemeni wind, driving it on.

The south wind unfastens its spouts,

and it gushes, its openings gaping wide.
