نسقت عقد الكمال منتظما
منfrom المعانيmeanings لئالئاpearls نسقاin sequence
من المعاني لئالئا نسقا
You strung the necklace of perfection in due order,
You have strung together a necklace of perfection
With pearls of meaning arranged in a row.
Orderly pearls of meaning interlinked.
وروضةand the garden الفضلof excellence اطلعتbrought forth زهراًblossoms
وروضة الفضل اطلعت زهراً
يثنيoffers praise شذاهاits fragrance عليكupon you ماas long as عبقاit wafts fragrance
يثني شذاها عليك ما عبقا
And the garden of excellence has brought forth blossoms,
The garden of virtue has blossomed a flower
Its fragrance praises you as long as it wafts.
Whose fragrance praises you however much it wafts.
قدindeed جادهاwatered it abundantly منكfrom you صوبa downpour غاديةa morning cloud
قد جادها منك صوب غادية
منfrom عيلمthe vast ocean العلمof knowledge تحملbearing الغدقاthe abundant rain
من عيلم العلم تحمل الغدقا
A morning cloud from you has watered it with showers,
Flowing freely from you towards the departing one,
Bearing abundant rain from the vast ocean of knowledge.
Bearing fruits of knowledge overflowing.
ياO جوهراًjewel صاغهfashioned it الزمانTime لهfor itself
يا جوهراً صاغه الزمان له
تاجa crown فخارof glory بفرقهupon its head ائتلقاgleamed
تاج فخار بفرقه ائتلقا
O jewel that Time fashioned for itself,
O essence which time has wrought
A crown of glory that gleamed upon its head.
A crown of pride in its separation it has fused.
سبقتyou took the lead فيin حلبةthe racecourse العلىof eminence وكذاand likewise
سبقت في حلبة العلى وكذا
كلevery جوادnoble steed إذاwhenever جرىit runs سبقاit takes the lead
كل جواد إذا جرى سبقا
You took the lead in the racecourse of eminence; likewise,
You surpassed in the race track of the exalted,
Every noble steed takes the lead whenever it runs.
Like any steed when it runs it outstrips.
فيin كلevery أرضland سيرتyou sent forth شاردةa wandering verse
في كل أرض سيرت شاردة
ذكركyour renown يحدوdrives onward with song هجانهاits noble white camels عنقاin long strides
ذكرك يحدو هجانها عنقا
In every land you sent forth a wandering verse,
In every land your travels have roamed
Your renown sings its noble white camels onward in long strides—
Your fame sings out driving its gazelles.
أوانساmaidens تجتليyou behold محانسهاtheir charms (apparently محاسنها)
أوانسا تجتلي محانسها
فتسترقand so they enslave القلوبthe hearts والحدقاand the pupils
فتسترق القلوب والحدقا
Maidens whose charms you behold,
Intimates display their gatherings,
And so they enslave hearts and eyes.
Stealing hearts and sights.
فابقso remain رفيعexalted المقامin rank مقتنياًpossessing
فابق رفيع المقام مقتنياً
طرائفrare gems القولof speech ناصعاpure white يققاdazzlingly white
طرائف القول ناصعا يققا
So remain exalted in rank, possessing
Remain of lofty station collected,
Rare gems of speech, yourself pure and dazzlingly white,
Gleaning the subtleties of speech pure and sincere.
ماas long as افترsmiles ثغرa mouth منضدwith evenly set teeth ورناand gazes steadily
ما افتر ثغر منضد ورنا
طرفan eye غضيضdowncast وماسand sways غصنa bough نقاof a sand dune
طرف غضيض وماس غصن نقا
As long as a mouth with even teeth smiles, and a steady gaze is cast
No mouth of one mocking has sneered,
By a downcast eye, and a bough upon a sand dune sways.
No eye of one scowling has glared, nor thorny branch scratched.
