1. طلعت بغرة تحكي الهلالا

    بأرض كنت أنت لها جمالا

    You rose with a radiant brow resembling the crescent moon,

    in a land whose adornment you yourself had been.

  2. فأهلا بالمكارم والمعالي

    نحييها ابتهاجا واحتفالا

    So welcome to noble virtues and lofty honors;

    we greet them with joy and celebration.

  3. نعيم قد اتى من بعد بؤس

    وهجر منك اعقبنا وصالا

    Bliss has come after misery,

    and separation from you has brought us reunion.

  4. فنحن اليوم في عيش رغيد

    صفا سلساله وضفا ظلالا

    So today ours is a life of ease,

    its stream running clear and its shade spreading wide.

  5. بشمل مثل ما نهوى جميع

    وعهد مسرة وافى اقتبالا

    with our company united just as we desire,

    and a season of joy arriving in its first bloom.

  6. فيا أرض الطفوف سموت قدراً

    بطلعة قاسم وسعدت حالا

    So, O land of al-Tufuf, you have risen in rank

    with Qasim's appearance, and your fortunes have brightened,

  7. بأبيض في الذوائب من معد

    اعدته المؤمل والثمالا

    through a radiant noble among the foremost of Ma'add,

    whom you prepared as a source of hope and refuge;

  8. بأكرمهم واحفظهم عهوداً

    وأحسنهم واطيبهم فعالا

    through their most generous, most faithful to pledges,

    and their finest and purest in deeds.

  9. تعين المادحين له صفات

    لذلك يحسنون به المقالا

    His qualities help those who praise him;

    thus they make their words about him eloquent.

  10. اهان المال وهو اعز شيء

    وأكرم نفسه شرفا وغالي

    He held wealth cheap, though it is the dearest thing,

    and honored his own self with nobility, prizing it highly.

  11. وما ان غيرت منك الليالي

    شمائلك الكريمة والخصالا

    Nor have the nights altered

    your noble traits and qualities.

  12. تغادر بلدة وتحل اخرى

    فتحوي الحمر حلا وارتحالا

    You leave one town and settle in another,

    thus gaining red camels, in residence and in travel.

  13. ففي سورية ابقيت ذكرا

    على الشام العراق به استطالا

    For in Syria you left a name

    through which Iraq boasted superiority over al-Sham.

  14. وفي دار السلام حللت داراً

    تشد الوافدون لها الرحالا

    And in Dar al-Salam you settled in a dwelling

    for which visitors strap on their saddles.

  15. يمين منك قد خلقت لجوج

    تسح ندى إذا هبت شمالا

    Your right hand was fashioned to be relentless,

    raining bounty when it blows like a north wind.

  16. ولاقيت الشدائد باصطبار

    وحلم قد وزنت به الجبال

    And you met hardships with steadfast patience,

    and forbearance against which you weighed the mountains.

  17. ومثلك في الزمان إذا تجنى

    يكون لكل مكرمة مثالا

    And one like you, when Time deals unjustly,

    becomes a model of every noble virtue.

  18. أصاب الدهر رشدا بعد غي

    وكانت عثرة ثم استقالا

    Time has found right guidance after error,

    and there was a stumble, then it sought forgiveness.

  19. وفي نقد الحوادث زدت فضلا

    وصرف الدهر ينتقد الرجالا

    And in the assay of events you grew in merit,

    while Time's vicissitudes assay men.

  20. أعاد الله أيام التلاقي

    وجمع شمل ألفتنا اتصالا

    God has restored the days of reunion,

    and brought our fellowship together in union.

  21. فمنا من دنا بعد انتزاح

    عن الأوطان أعواماً طوالا

    So among us is one who drew near after being far away

    from the homelands for long years.

  22. ومنا مطلق من بعد اسر

    يكابد فيه سجناً واعتقالا

    And among us is one set free after captivity,

    during which he endured imprisonment and detention.

  23. فلم يدنس علي سفر وسجن

    لنا عرض ولم نركب ضلالا

    So neither travel nor imprisonment stained

    our honor, nor did we ride into error.

  24. وقد كنا خفافا للمساعي

    وان كنا على بعض ثقالا

    And we were swift in our endeavors,

    though we weighed heavily on some.

  25. ارى حساد مجدك في عناء

    تضم صدورهم داء عضالا

    I see the enviers of your glory in distress;

    their breasts harbor an incurable disease.

  26. إذا راموا محلك وهو سام

    فأنهم يرومون المحالا

    When they seek your station, lofty as it is,

    they seek the impossible.

  27. إذا ياسرت احرزت المعلى

    وان اجريت احرزت المجالا

    When you play at lots, you win the highest lot,

    and if you race, you win the field.

  28. هنيئا أيها الأضحى هنيئا

    فبالأشراق بشرك قد توالى

    Joy to you, O Adha, joy to you!

    For your gladness has come in radiant succession.

  29. بقيت لنا بقاء البدر يسمو

    سناً وتضيء طلعته كمالا

    May you endure for us as the full moon endures, rising

    in radiance, its face shining in perfection;

  30. وتهتز البشائر والتهاني

    بربعك وهي تختال اختيالا

    and glad tidings and congratulations sway

    in your abode, proudly strutting.
