When his wāw-shaped temple-lock appeared to me, I read a good omen
I was enchanted when I saw his delicate cheek
of tenderness toward a lovesick lover whose eyes stay sleepless for him.
Inclining on a youth whose eyes knew no sleep,
وقلتand I said لهto him لماwhen تبدىappeared عذارهhis cheek-down
وقلت له لما تبدى عذاره

بلامين قد فقت الملاح بلامين
And when his cheek-down appeared, I said to him:
And said, when he displayed his charms,
“With two lāms, you have indeed surpassed the beauties—without a lie.”
"With glances you have slain glances."
