العين تذهب والآثار باقية
والرسمand the portrait بغيةthe object of desire منwhoever يشتاقlongs للنظرto see
والرسم بغية من يشتاق للنظر
The person passes away, but the traces remain.
The eye departs, but traces linger on,
And the portrait is what one who longs to see desires.
And the portrait for one who yearns to look.
والمرءand the person يحفظpreserves فعلdoing الصالحاتgood deeds لهfor him
والمرء يحفظ فعل الصالحات له
معalong with المثالthe likeness بقاءthe endurance العينthe person والاثرand the legacy
مع المثال بقاء العين والاثر
And a man's good deeds preserve for him,
Man preserves good deeds done for him,
Along with his likeness, the endurance of his person and his legacy.
As with the eye and trace that live.
