يهدي لوجنتك النسيب رقيقا
The free man has become a slave in his love for you.
The free man has become delicate in your love
He offers tender love verse to your cheek.
He offers his soft cheek humbly to your hand

نشوان لست افيق من سكر الهوى
أأفاقhas ... sobered up? صبa lovesick lover منfrom هوىlove فافيقاso that I should sober up
أأفاق صب من هوى فافيقا
Intoxicated, I do not sober from love’s drunkenness.
Drunk with passion's inebriation, I cannot awaken
Has any lover sobered from love, that I should sober?
Shall one awaken sober from the wine of love?

واراقب الجوزاء والعيوقا
How many a night have I spent watching its full moon,
How many nights have I spent gazing at its full moon
and observing Orion and Capella.
And watching the Gemini and Vega

I spilled ruby tears in remembrance
of a mouth that held pearls and carnelian.
Of lips that held pearls and carnelian

My heart has never spent the night fettered by passion
My heart bound by passion does not rest
without tears within it running free.
Except my tears therein flow freely

Tell—may God guard you—of the bān tree of the sanctuary,
May God guard your pasture - tell of the fever's waning
in the days it united one who stirred longing with one who yearned.
Days that bring longing lover and longed together

a spear, and whose cheeks’ fresh bloom resembled anemones.
As a spear, tender, his two cheeks alluring

He is harsh and refuses tenderness to a lover
He is cruel and refuses to soften towards a passionate lover
whose blood was spilled by the swords of passion.
His blood spilled by the swords of love's agony

Beauty allotted him a languid glance

My arrows returned with my heart appeased

From his speech, his saliva, and his cheeks,
By his words, his face, his cheeks
and his glances, the lover is given nectar to drink.
His glances give drink to his lover as though with pure wine
