دمت يا مربع السماح انيسا

بالتهاني ولا عدمت الأنيسا

May you remain, O abode of generosity, full of cheer

with congratulations, and never lack a companion.

واضاءت شموس سعدك تتلو

فيك اقمار بهجة وشموسا

And may the suns of your good fortune shine, following

moons of joy and suns within you.

بالندى الفاطمي اخصب مغنا

ك فاضحى ذكر الخصيب دريسا

Through Fatimid bounty your dwelling flourished,

and the memory of al-Khasib became effaced.

لو رأى جوده ابن هاني لأضحى

مدحه مطلقا عليه حبيسا

Had Ibn Hani seen his generosity,

his unbounded praise would have been confined to him.

هو بدر يجرى به فلك البد

رة جوداً فيبدع التجنيسا

He is a full moon borne along by the sphere of the money-purse,

in generosity, creating wondrous wordplay;

وهزبر يشغى الوغى ثابت الجا

ش فتغدو له الأسنة خيسا

and a lion who enters the fray, steadfast of heart,

so the spearheads become his thicket.

باسطا للعدى وللصحب كفين

تفاديهم بنعمى وبؤسى

Stretching forth two palms to foes and companions,

ransoming them with blessings and affliction.

يا هماماً لذكره يطرب المجد

فيثني له المعاطف ميسا

O hero, at whose mention glory rejoices,

then bends its sides for him, swaying proudly.

لك صعب العلاء عاد ذلولا

وعلى طالبي مداك شموسا

For you, the unruly mount of eminence has grown docile,

yet remains untamable for those seeking your reach.

همهم ثروة وهمك حمد

انما يطلب النفيس نفيسا

Their aim is wealth, and yours is praise;

only one of worth seeks what is precious.
