وقائل ما بال آل الهدى

وقائل ما بال آل الهدى

في كربلا قتلى لآل الطليق

في كربلا قتلى لآل الطليق

And someone asked, 'Why was the House of Guidance

And a speaker, what of the people of guidance

slain at Karbala by the house of the freed man?

In Karbala, slain, of the people released

من الذي اسس في ظلمهم

من الذي اسس في ظلمهم

وقتلهم هذا البناء الوثيق

وقتلهم هذا البناء الوثيق

Who founded, in oppressing them

Who founded in their oppression

and killing them, this solid edifice?

And killed them, this sturdy structure

ومن ترى قد غصب المرتضى

ومن ترى قد غصب المرتضى

حقاً به كان جديراً حقيق

حقاً به كان جديراً حقيق

And who, do you think, usurped from al-Murtada

And who do you see has usurped the Chosen One

a right he deserved and was truly entitled to?'

A right with which he was truly deserving

قلت له هذا حديث مضى

قلت له هذا حديث مضى

لكن مضاء المشرفي الذليق

لكن مضاء المشرفي الذليق

I told him, 'This is a tale gone by,

I said to him, this is a past discourse

yet it cuts like a keen Mashrafi sword.

But the ignoble course of the honorable

فخذ جديداً من رزاياهم

فخذ جديداً من رزاياهم

ان الذي تسئل عنه عتيق

ان الذي تسئل عنه عتيق

So take a fresh account of their calamities;

So take something new of their misfortunes

for what you ask about is ancient.'

That which you ask about is antiquated
