فكان من خيرة اصحابي

And a companion kept me company for a time,

A friend who accompanied me for some time

and was among the finest of my friends.

Was among the best of friends

يصبو لأشعاري فلا بدع ان

سميته الصاحب والصابي

سميته الصاحب والصابي

He yearns for my poems, so it is no wonder that

He poured into my poems, as it was inevitable

I called him al-Sahib and al-Sabi.

That I called him a friend and companion
