من مراقي العلى سموت مقاما

قد تعالى محله ان يسامى

From the steps of glory you rose to a station

Whose place is too exalted to be equaled.

قاب قوسين قد دنوت وهذي

غاية فات شأوها الأوهاما

You drew near to within two bow-lengths, and this

Is a goal whose reach surpassed imagination.

فحباك السلام منه سلاما

كنت للعالمين فيه سلاما

So the Source of Peace bestowed on you a greeting from Himself;

Through it, you were peace for all the worlds.

أين سيناء من معارج قدس

جل تخصيص نيلها ان يرامها

What is Sinai beside the ascents of holiness,

Whose attainment is an exclusive privilege too exalted to be sought?

فزت بالرؤية التي لم تكيف

والكلام الذي يفوت الكلاما

You attained the vision whose manner was not defined,

And the speech that surpasses speech.

جئت بالصدق مظهراً معجزات

تبهر الجاحد الألد الخصاما

You came with the truth, revealing miracles

That dazzle the obstinate, contentious denier.

شق بدر السما بايمان كف

منك ثم استقل بدراً تماما

The full moon of heaven was split by the faith of a hand

Of yours; then it rose as a perfect full moon.

والعصا أورقت بكفك لما

صافحت من نداك غيثا سجاما

And the staff put forth leaves in your hand when

It clasped a pouring rain from your bounty.

وبميلادك الوجود تحلى

جوهراً كان للوجود نظاما

And at your birth existence adorned itself

With a jewel that was existence's ordering bond.

فاضاءت بك البلاد رشاداً

بعد ما كن بالضلال ظلاما

So through you the lands shone with guidance,

After they had been darkness in error.

يا خليلي عللاني بذكرى

أحمد تشفيا جوى وغراما

O my two friends, comfort me with remembrance

Of Ahmad, and heal my heartache and passionate longing.
