رأيت حبة فوق وجنته

دارت به طرة فيها العبير ذكا

دارت به طرة فيها العبير ذكا

I saw a beauty mark, like a seed, upon his cheek,

I saw a grain-like beauty spot upon his cheek.

I saw a beauty spot above his cheek

encircled by a forelock where perfume wafted.

A forelock curled around it, its perfume wafting.

A flying thing circled it, filled with fragrance

فطائر القلب يدنو تارة طمعاً

فطائر القلب يدنو تارة طمعاً

فيها وينأى إذا ما ابصر الشركا

فيها وينأى إذا ما ابصر الشركا

The heart’s bird draws near at times, coveting it,

So the heart's bird sometimes draws near, longing

So my heart fluttered near at times with longing

then draws away whenever it spies the snare.

For it, and draws away whenever it sees the snare.
