A captive of love: the abode of his passion is inhabited
A beloved of passionate love,
By him, while the abode of his patience lies in ruins.
His love prospering, his patience in ruins,
ذاكيةablaze ضلوعهhis ribs لاnot تنطفيare quenched
ذاكية ضلوعه لا تنطفي
مطلقةunrestrained دموعهhis tears لاnot تحبسare held back
مطلقة دموعه لا تحبس
His ribs are ablaze; they are never quenched.
His ribs cease not from burning,
His tears run free; they are not held back.
His tears unrestrained.
يصدعنhe turns away from نصحthe counsel العذولthe reproacher نافراًrecoiling
يصدعن نصح العذول نافراً
وبالجوىand in love's anguish وهوand it is العذابtorment يأنسhe finds solace
وبالجوى وهو العذاب يأنس
He turns away from the reproacher's counsel, recoiling,
He spurns the virgins' advice in disgust
And in love's anguish, though it is torment, he finds solace.
And finds solace in love though it torment.
