تمارضتyou feigned illness كيso that أشجىI would grieve وماand there is no بكin you علةillness
تريدينyou wish قتليto kill me قدindeed رضيتI have consented بذلكِto that
You feigned illness to make me grieve, though nothing ails you.
You feigned illness though you were hale
You wish to kill me; I have consented to that.
You wanted me dead, I acquiesced
وقولكand your saying للعوّادto the sickbed visitors كيفhow ترونهyou find him
فقالواso they said قتيلاًa slain man قلتyou said أهونthe least significant هالكِone who has perished
And you asked the sickbed visitors, 'How do you find him?'
When asked how I fared, to callers you said
So they said, 'Slain.' You said, 'The least significant of the dead.'
"He's dying," less grievous than my death
لئنeven if ساءنيit pained me أنْthat نلتنيyou afflicted me بمساءةwith harm
لقدindeed سرَّنيit gladdened me أنّيthat I خطرتI passed ببالكthrough your mind
Though it pained me that you treated me ill,
Though pained that with evil you came at me
It truly gladdened me that I crossed your mind.
I was glad you gave thought to me
