فلو زيَّنَ الحسن من وجهه
بهجرْby forsaking الصدودrejection ووصلand sustaining الوصالِunion
بهجرْ الصدود ووصل الوصالِ
So if he adorned the beauty of his face
If he adorned his beautiful face
By forsaking rejection and sustaining union,
With severing the aloof and unifying the union
لتمit would be complete ولكنand yet ماnot إنemphasizes the negation أرىI see
لتم ولكن ما إن أرى
جميلfair المحَّياthe countenance جميلfair الفعالِthe deeds
جميل المحَّيا جميل الفعالِ
It would be complete; and yet I do not see
It would be complete, but I do not see
One fair of face who is fair in deeds.
