إنَّ العيونَ إذا مكَّن من رجلٍ

إنَّ العيونَ إذا مكَّن من رجلٍ

يَفْعَلْنَ بالقلب ما لا يفعلُ الأسلُ

يَفْعَلْنَ بالقلب ما لا يفعلُ الأسلُ

Indeed, when eyes gain mastery over a man,

When eyes grant power over a man’s heart,

They do to the heart what spears cannot do.

They can do to it what no weapons can.

وليس بالبطل الماشي إلى بطل

وليس بالبطل الماشي إلى بطل

فالحرب تخمد أحياناً وتشتعلُ

فالحرب تخمد أحياناً وتشتعلُ

And the hero is not the man who walks toward a hero;

He's no hero who walks up to a hero-

For war sometimes dies down and flares up.

Battles cool down at times and flare up at others.

لكنه من له قلب إذا رشقت

لكنه من له قلب إذا رشقت

فيه العيون فذلك الفارس البطلُ

فيه العيون فذلك الفارس البطلُ

Rather, he is the one who has a heart when eyes shoot

But he in whose heart eyes unleash their arrows,

Into it—that is the horseman, the hero.

He is the brave knight, he is the hero.
