I did not attain him, so I attained him through wishes,

I could not attain it though I wished

In my sleep, in secret from estrangement.

In my dream, it secretly came from estrangement

واصلَ الحلم بيننا بعد هجر

فاجتمعنا ونحن مفترقانِ

فاجتمعنا ونحن مفترقانِ

The dream brought us together after estrangement,

The dream continued after our separation

So we met while we were apart.

So we met while we were parted

غير أنَّ الأرواح خافت رقيبا

غير أنَّ الأرواح خافت رقيبا

فطوت سرّها عن الأبدانِ

فطوت سرّها عن الأبدانِ

But the souls feared a watcher,

Except that spirits feared a watcher

So they concealed their secret from the bodies.

So they hid their secret from bodies

منظر كان لذة القلب إلاّ

منظر كان لذة القلب إلاّ

أنه منظر بغير عيانِ

أنه منظر بغير عيانِ

A vision that was the heart's delight, except

A scene that was heart's delight

That it was a vision unseen by the eyes.

Except it was a scene without seeing
