فكسته حمَّى الرواح بهارا

Fever visited him at dawn and came upon him at evening;

Fever assailed him at dawn and passed by

so the evening fever clothed him in yellow narcissus blossoms.

The fever of departure clothed him in spring

لم تشنه لما ألَّحت ولكنْ

بدَّلته بالاحمرار اصفرارا

بدَّلته بالاحمرار اصفرارا

It did not mar him when it persisted, but

It did not torment him when it persisted

exchanged his redness for yellow pallor.

But turned his redness into yellow paleness
