يُري الغزاة بأنَّ اللّه همته

يُري الغزاة بأنَّ اللّه همته

وإنّما كان يغزو كيس اسحقِ

وإنّما كان يغزو كيس اسحقِ

He shows the warriors that God is all he strives for,

He makes the warriors believe that God is his aim,

yet he went campaigning only for Ishaq’s purse.

yet he was only raiding Ishaq’s purse.

فباع زهدا ثواباُ لا نفاد له

فباع زهدا ثواباُ لا نفاد له

واتباع عاجل رفْدِ القوم بالباقي

واتباع عاجل رفْدِ القوم بالباقي

Scorning it, he sold a reward that never runs out,

So, disdaining it, he sold a reward that never ends,

and bought the people’s fleeting bounty with the everlasting.

and pursued the people’s immediate bounty at the cost of what endures.
