عقب النهار كمقتضٍ قَرضا
Death’s daughter has been set upon me,
Death’s daughter is assigned to me,
Death's daughter was assigned to me
at close of day, like a creditor collecting a debt.
at day’s end, like a creditor demanding a loan’s repayment.
To come after daylight as if a loan

ألفَتْ وفاءً ليس تسأمه

فترى مواصلتي به فرضا
She has grown used to a fidelity she never tires of,
She has grown used to faithfulness, never tiring of it,
She grew accustomed, never tiring
and deems her constant visiting of me a duty.
so she deems faithfully keeping me company a duty.
Of seeing me continue as if an imposition

لحمي ورَضَّتْ اعظمي رضَّا
With her shivering chill and violence she has stripped
With her shivering fits and violence, she has stripped away
She ground my flesh with her shaking and tightening
my flesh away and crushed my bones to pieces.
my flesh, and utterly crushed my bones.
And crushed my bones to great pulverization

نِيْقاً أشمَّ لذاب وارفضَّا
Were she to hurl her full force against
And were she to strike with her weapons
And if she casts her spear
a towering mountain peak, it would melt and fall apart.
a lofty mountain peak, it would surely melt and crumble apart.
Toward my throat, I would smell its melting and reject it
