إنّ هذا يرى أرى

إنّ هذا يرى أرى

أنه ابن المُهلَّبِ

أنه ابن المُهلَّبِ

This fellow thinks, I think,

Indeed, this man thinks—I think—

that he is a son of al-Muhallab.

that he is the son of al-Muhallab.

أنت واللّه معْجَبٌ

أنت واللّه معْجَبٌ

ولنا غيرُ معجِبِ

ولنا غيرُ معجِبِ

By God, you are full of self-admiration,

You are, by God, impressed with yourself,

yet to us, you are anything but admirable.

yet to us you are not impressive.
