فارَقَتنيparted from me ذخيرةٌa treasured possession منof عَقارٍlanded property
فارَقَتني ذخيرةٌ من عَقارٍ
ذكرتنيit reminded me تفرّقَthe parting of الأحبابِthe loved ones
ذكرتني تفرّقَ الأحبابِ
A reserve of landed wealth has left me,
A treasured holding of landed property parted from me;
A store of fragrant herbs has left me
reminding me of the parting of loved ones.
It reminded me of the parting of loved ones.
Reminding me of friends now gone
وسواءand alike بَيْعٌselling الرِّقَابproperty holdings (literally, necks) منfrom المالِwealth
وسواء بَيْعٌ الرِّقَاب من المالِ
إذاwhen بعتهاyou sell them وضروبُand blows to الرِّقَابِthe necks
إذا بعتها وضروبُ الرِّقَابِ
And selling the very substance of one’s wealth is all the same—
And selling property holdings from one's wealth is no different,
Whether money buys men’s lives or merely
once it is sold—as blows struck upon the neck.
when you sell them, from blows to necks.
Their bodies, it makes slaves of lives.
