a petitioner who does not reproach him.

Of all people, he is the greatest collector

of ignoble ways.

لمسُ بعض الكواكبِ

لمسُ بعض الكواكبِ

Nearer than the bounty of his hand

is touching some of the stars.

وتراخى مصيبتي

وتراخى مصيبتي

فيه إحدى المصائبِ

فيه إحدى المصائبِ

And the prolonging of my misfortune

with him is one of the calamities.

ليت لي منك يا أخي

جارةً من محاربِ

جارةً من محاربِ

Would that I had, instead of you, O my brother,

a woman of Muharib for a neighbor,

نارها كلَّ شتْوةٍ

نارها كلَّ شتْوةٍ

مثل نار الحُبَاحِبِ

مثل نار الحُبَاحِبِ

whose fire, every winter,

is like the fire of al-Hubahib.
