لو جاد بالمال أبو رهم
كجودهlike his generosity بالأختِwith the sister والأمِّand the mother
كجوده بالأختِ والأمِّ
If Abu Ruhm were generous with money
As he is with his sister and mother,
أضحىhe would become وماand not يُعرفُis known مِثلٌan equal لهto him
أضحى وما يُعرفُ مِثلٌ له
وقيلand it would be said أسخىmost generous العربthe Arabs والعجمِand the non-Arabs
وقيل أسخى العرب والعجمِ
He would have no known equal,
And be called the most generous of Arabs and non-Arabs.
منwhoever برَّtreated kindly بالحرمةwith his womenfolk إخوانهhis brethren
من برَّ بالحرمة إخوانه
استحقّdeserves أنto يشكرbe thanked بالشتمِwith insults
استحقّ أن يشكر بالشتمِ
Whoever favors his brethren with his womenfolk
Deserves to be thanked with insults.
