على من لابس السلطان عتبه
Who will defend me against a brother who was once in my hands?
My excuse is from a brother who had been in my hands
His reproach fell on whoever consorted with the ruler.
Again to the one wearing the Sultan's blame

And every day he would disparage them;
And he used to blame them every day
his speeches betrayed ignorance and babbling.
Rambling nonsense and ravings in his talk

But when a few paltry dirhams came to him
But when the Sultan's dirhams came to him
from the ruler, he sold his Lord for them.
He sold his Lord for their sake

And he went away, his testicles like two balls,
And he hid away, his two testicles
and returned, his testicles like half a gourd.
Swelling like two medical gourds

كما أجدى على النرسي شعبه
Nor have you seen Mālik show him such bounty
You have not seen an angel more helpful to him
as Shuʿba showed al-Narsī.
Than his testicle was helpful to An-Narssy
