The God awoke, long live the God, revolving are the ages,
At the head of the canal from Jayrun.
At the origin of the canal of Gerun.

And cares assailed me at al-Matirun.
Worries attacked me like heavy rains.

So for her I was held captive in al-Sham, until

That my family thought I was possessed by obsession.

Would that I knew if my sleep flew for love,
Or has rubā [unclear], with short eyelids, worn me down?
Or if my Lord deprived me, made sleep short.
