إنيindeed I لأعلمُsurely I know أنّthat عجزاًweakness ظاهراًmanifest
إني لأعلمُ أنّ عجزاً ظاهراً
بالمرءin a man ليسis not يرومُهseeks it منone who يحزمacts prudently
بالمرء ليس يرومُه من يحزم
I know full well that manifest weakness
I know well that obvious weakness
In a man is not sought by one who acts prudently.
Is not what one who is wise would seek
لاnot يُتركُis abandoned الوطنُthe homeland القريبnearby لمنزلٍfor a dwelling
لا يُتركُ الوطنُ القريب لمنزلٍ
شحطfar away ويُصَرمand is severed للحديثfor the new الأقدمthe older
شحط ويُصَرم للحديث الأقدم
The nearby homeland is not abandoned for a dwelling
One's homeland is not abandoned for a house
Far away, nor is the older forsaken for the new.
However alluring, to chase after old tales
