    ت تمنحَه سُوك الأسحل

    White of incisors, black of gums—

    Asḥal tooth-sticks bestow these upon him.

    خفوق الحشا جُرشع المركل

    Broad of chest, long of ribs,

    Slender of belly, broad where the rider's heels strike;

    محملجةِ الفتل كالقَنقَل

    Leading to a thigh whose flesh swells high,

    Smoothly rounded and firmly knit, like a great measuring vessel;

    ن سدّا له خللَ المفصِل

    And two legs whose hocks are compact,

    Both closing the gap in his joint;

    Long of forearm, with an elbow

    Tucked against the chest, not twisted outward;

    Like the cannon bones of the great camel of Mosul,

    Neither broken in nor saddled.

    تقبّضتا خيفة الأجذل

    As though their two muscle bulges were two hares,

    Both crouched in fear of the falcon,

    من العَقدِ الهائر الأهيل

    Upon two fleshy thighs, like a dune's back,

    Of heaped sand, crumbling and loose.
