What war is this? What misguidance!

And why did they close the door of “Al-Ma'ali”?

They barred “Al-Rahmah” and “Al-Hikmah” from us,

and “Safa” and “Al-Fajr,” after “Wisal.”

They closed the gateway of “Al-Hafiz,” where

a reciter recites from the Book of God.

They deprived people of “Al-Nas” and cast

“Al-Khalijiyyah” onto the path of demise.

They warned “Al-Majd”; should they threaten the glory

of one who calls with calm and moderation?

They hemmed us in within God's expanse, until

souls grew cramped by the narrowness of the space.

Why did they not close the door to deviance

on satellite channels of debauchery and moral decay?!

They let voices of sectarian hatred

fill the horizons with abuse and go to extremes.

And they refused to let voices of goodness

delight the ears with lawful magic.

How can they assassinate, across the horizons, a voice

that guides people toward the best of deeds?!

And they give room to claims

that sweep people onto the path of misguidance.

O law, you have become strange

in my time, speaking of a wretched state.

You bar the scholar and the sheikh, yet leave

a deluded man whose reasoning is a kind of absurdity.

What mind arbitrarily bars the truth?

    What terror, injustice, and disorder?!

You are not law, but a ruling,

unjust, in the hand of one of blameworthy character.

The strongest protected you, to remain stronger than you

and to protect, through you, mere semblances of men.

We have indeed seen you violent and tyrannical

    in Palestine, supporting the occupation.

And we have seen you brutally unjust in Iraq,

which tasted nothing from you but the taste of calamity.

And we have seen you go along with those who call

for corrupt deeds or evil speech.

And we have seen you favor those who strip bare

on satellite channels, the ladies of curtained chambers.

And we have seen you—seen you often—

wearing the robe of false accusation and madness.

O law, you still show us

in the realms of caprice, the worst example.

You are a weak spider's house,

    vanishing, frail, before completion.

You are like the wolf, ruling only

    through aggression, predation, and assassination.

O law, if you are to remain

raising the banner of falsehood and fraud,

then we shall meet you with a shield of certainty

and arrows of prayer and supplication.

Be as you wish, for we have raised

the banner of truth, and we do not care.

Our awareness is greater than your claim; indeed,

we draw help from the Lord of Majesty.

A loser, by God, is whoever meets certainty

with conjectures, and righteousness with misguidance.
