وعند نبعك بحر الشعر ينحسر
What can poems say to you, O Umar,
What do poems tell you, O Omar
when, at your spring, the sea of poetry recedes?
While at your spring, the sea of poetry recedes

I seem to see the rhymes of poetry standing,
As if I stood at the rhymes of poetry
awestruck at generosity's door, waiting.
Awe-struck at the door of generosity, waiting

Had you only justice, it would have dazzled

So what of it and benevolence being widespread?

You spent your night awake, tending to a widow's plight,
You stayed up at night to watch over the state of a widow
who cared for orphans as tears streamed from her eyes,

so that verses and surahs came to be recited concerning it!
That it became recited as verses and surahs

The devil flees from your path, defeated
and keeps far from your way, routed.
And veers away from your road, repelled
