قالواthey said : هوhe الصديقal-Siddiq (the Truthful) ، قلتI said : كفاهwas enough for him
قالوا : هو الصديق ، قلت : كفاه
ماwhat يحفظpreserves التاريخhistory منof ذكراهhis memory
ما يحفظ التاريخ من ذكراه
They said, “He is al-Siddiq.” I said, “Enough for him
They said: He is the truthful friend, I said: He suffices
is the remembrance of him that history preserves.”
What history preserves of his mention
يكفيهsuffices him " تصديقbelief in " النبيthe Prophet ، وأنهand that he
يكفيه " تصديق " النبي ، وأنه
فيin كلِّevery موقفoccasion همَّةٍhigh resolve زكَّاهُhe commended him
في كلِّ موقف همَّةٍ زكَّاهُ
His belief in the Prophet suffices him, as does the fact that
It suffices him the "truthful confirmation" of the Prophet, and that he
the Prophet commended him in every moment of high resolve.
In every position of resolve has purified him
يكفيsuffices أباAbu بكرBakr فخاراًas honor أنَّهthat he
يكفي أبا بكر فخاراً أنَّه
فيduring هجرةthe migration of المختارthe Chosen One قدindeed آخاهhe took him as a brother
في هجرة المختار قد آخاه
It is honor enough for Abu Bakr that
It suffices Abu Bakr pride that he
during the Chosen One’s migration, he took him as a brother.
In the emigration of the Chosen One has supported him
قطعhe crossed الجبالthe mountains الراسياتfirmly rooted مرافقas a companion
قطع الجبال الراسيات مرافق
لأعزto the dearest of خلقthe creation of اللهGod حينwhen دعاهhe called him
لأعز خلق الله حين دعاه
He crossed the firmly rooted mountains as a companion
He crossed the firm mountains accompanying
to the dearest of God’s creation when he called him.
The most honourable of Allah's creations when he called him
وتعجبتand marveled منهat him الرمالthe sands وقدand indeed مشىhe walked
وتعجبت منه الرمال وقد مشى
تقفواfollow خطاthe footsteps of الهاديthe Guide البشيرthe bearer of glad tidings خطاهhis footsteps
تقفوا خطا الهادي البشير خطاه
And the sands marveled at him as he walked,
And the sands were amazed by him when he walked
his footsteps following those of the Guide, the bearer of glad tidings.
Following the footsteps of the guiding prophet, his steps
يمشيhe walks أمامin front of المصطفىthe Chosen One ووراءهand behind him
يمشي أمام المصطفى ووراءه
مشيthe walk of المحبthe lover تفطرتْsplit open قدماهُhis two feet
مشي المحب تفطرتْ قدماهُ
He walks ahead of the Chosen One and behind him,
He walks ahead of Mustafa and behind him
with a lover’s tread, his feet split open.
The walk of the lover whose feet crumbled
فيin قصةthe story of الإسراءthe Night Journey وand المعراجthe Ascension منof
في قصة الإسراء و المعراج من
تصديقهhis belief ماthat which لاnot ينالis attained مداهits extent
تصديقه ما لا ينال مداه
In the story of the Night Journey and the Ascension,
In the story of Al-Isra and Al-Mi'raj, from
his belief reaches a degree none can attain.
His confirmation what cannot be reached by scope
شرفٌan honor تتوقyearn لهfor it الكواكبthe stars رفعةexaltation
شرفٌ تتوق له الكواكب رفعة
لماbecause ترىthey see فيin الداجياتthe dark nights سناهُits radiance
لما ترى في الداجيات سناهُ
An honor the stars yearn for, seeking exaltation,
An honor that the planets aspire to, loftiness
because they see its radiance in the dark nights.
For what he sees in the present life, made it old
تكفيsuffices أباAbu بكرBakr خلافتهhis caliphate التيwhich
تكفي أبا بكر خلافته التي
حفظتْpreserved منof الدينthe faith الحنيفupright عُراهits bonds
حفظتْ من الدين الحنيف عُراه
Sufficient for Abu Bakr is his caliphate, which
It suffices Abu Bakr his caliphate which
preserved the bonds of the upright faith.
Preserved the pure religion
كالليثlike a lion واجهhe confronted ردَّةُan apostasy مشؤومةill-omened
كالليث واجه ردَّةُ مشؤومة
فأعادso he brought back للإسلامto Islam منthose who جافاهshunned it
فأعاد للإسلام من جافاه
Like a lion, he confronted an ill-omened apostasy,
Like a lion, he faced the ominous apostasy
and so brought back to Islam those who had shunned it.
And brought back to Islam those who abandoned it
تلميذa pupil of مدرسةthe school of النبوةprophethood وand الهدىguidance
تلميذ مدرسة النبوة و الهدى
خيرthe best of الأنامhumankind علىin التقىpiety رباهُhe nurtured him
خير الأنام على التقى رباهُ
He was a pupil of the school of prophethood and guidance;
A disciple of the school of prophecy and guidance
the best of humankind nurtured him in piety.
The best of people, whom his Lord raised upon piety
ياO رحلةjourney of الصدِّيقal-Siddiq (the Truthful) فيalong دربthe path of الهدىguidance
يا رحلة الصدِّيق في درب الهدى
أحييتyou revived فيin قلبthe heart of المحبِّthe lover رضاهhis contentment
أحييت في قلب المحبِّ رضاه
O journey of al-Siddiq along the path of guidance,
O the journey of As-Siddiq in the path of guidance
you have revived contentment in the lover’s heart.
You have delighted the heart of the lover, his acceptance
