She said: You have indeed taught me deep love,
She said: You have taught me profound love,
and opened a door for me and paved the way.
And opened a door for me, paving the way.

You taught me the loftiest languages of love, until
You taught me the most eloquent languages of love, until
I loved the elegant wording in the language of passion.
I loved the elegant wording of passion.

لولاكَwere it not for you لمْnot يكسَرْbe broken ، ولمand not أجدِI find البريقاthe gleam
You brought me out of my solitude and broke open a door
You brought me out of my isolation, and broke open a door,
that, but for you, would not have been broken; nor would I have found the gleam.
That without you, would not have opened, nor would I have found brightness.
أنتyou الذيthe one who أشعلتَyou kindled نيرانfires اشتياقيmy yearning

You are the one who kindled the fires of my yearning,
You are the one who ignited the fires of my longing,
and from them stirred up the blaze between my ribs.
And stirred within my ribs a raging blaze.

and filled the cup of my anticipation with their nectar.
And filled my cup of anticipation with their nectar.

You journeyed with me until I saw my sorrow's sunset
You traveled with me until I saw the sunset of my sorrow
recede, and until I came to embrace the sunrise.
Recede, and until I embraced the dawn.

and made me adore tender whispering.
And made me fall for the gentle murmur.

You taught me what I had not known of madness,
You taught me what I did not know of madness,
until my beating heart wished never to come to its senses.
Until my fluttering heart wished not to awake.
علَّمتنيyou taught me فيin الحبِّlove درساًa lesson كنتَyou were فيهِin it
أنتَyou الحبيبَthe beloved ، وكنتَand you were ليto me الصَّديقاthe friend
You taught me a lesson in love, in which you were
You taught me in love a lesson where
the beloved, and you were my friend.
You were the beloved, and you were my friend.
فمتىso when تعلِّمنيyou teach me بربكَby your Lord حينَwhen تنأىyou draw away
صبراًpatience وعزماًand resolve صادقاًtrue حتَّىso that أُطيقاI can endure؟!
So when, by your Lord, will you teach me—when you draw away—
So when will you teach me, by your grace, when you are absent,
patience and true resolve, so that I may endure?
Patience and true determination, until I can endure?!
ومتىand when تعلِّمنيyou teach me السُلُوَّforgetting إذاif ابتعدْنwe draw apart
عنfrom بعضناone another (of us)،ومتىand when تكونyou will be بيtoward me الشَّفيقاthe compassionate one؟!
And when will you teach me to forget, if we draw apart
And when will you teach me composure, when we are apart from each other,
from one another, and when will you be compassionate toward me?
And when will you be my consoler?!
فأجبتهاso I answered her ، دَرْسُthe lesson السُّلُوِّforgetting عليِّfor me صعبٌdifficult
لمْnot أستطعْI could أنْto أفهمI understand الدَّرسthe lesson العميقاprofound
So I answered her: The lesson of forgetting is hard for me;
So I replied: the lesson of composure is difficult for me.
I was unable to understand the profound lesson.
I could not understand the profound lesson.
