Leave the machine gun behind you, O beloved.

And shake hands with me, for you are a close brother.

The bullet you fired toward me

Strikes you just as it strikes my heart.

And our killer is himself the one slain among us,

And the happiest of us is the most wretched and sorrowful.

Why, my brother, do you turn back toward me,

With your face wrathful as you face me?

Did we not all dwell in our camp,

With calamities sharing our childhood with us?

Did we not drink our pains as children,

And suck them in as we sucked milk?

Leave the enemies; do not rely on them,

For a wolf gives you nothing but treachery.

If the oppressor's hand stretches out with money

To you, a dubious aim lies behind it.

Ours is a blessed land, struck

By dreadful aggression from the enemies.

Were not my father and your father buried in it,

With streaming tears in their eyes?

You will suffer, then suffer, when the roads draw

Us far from driving out its usurper.

My brother, companion of my pains and sorrow

And my dreams—I have implored you, O beloved.

I have implored you to be a loyal brother,

    Lest sunset bury the sun.

I seem to hear the bullets saying, 'No!'

And swearing that they will not comply.

They tell us, 'Abandon this estrangement,

And cease killing one another, and repent.'

My brother, I have seen truth as a sun,

Ever attended by sunrise, so it never sets.

So do not let the hand of hatred draw blood

From a brow that pallor does not befit.

I heard the minarets of Al-Aqsa calling,

And in the Sacred House is one who answers them.

And the voice of the Night Journey's wonders calls,

And in its echoes is a wondrous melody:

If the minarets call for brotherhood,

Then answering the caller is obligatory.

My brother, between me and you runs a river of love

And sincerity, by which hearts' thirst is quenched.

    أرى جبلَ الجليدِ بـهِ يَـذُوبُ

    Our two hearts have a warmth of feeling;

I see the mountain of ice melt through it.

Both of us desire nothing but a victory

Through which our stolen homeland returns to us.

Both of us met in Palestine

With one aim: that the stranger be defeated.

So that we may raise a banner for truth, erasing

With it the sorrows from our nation's breast.

Brother of the Night Journey and the Ascension, between me

And you lies a field of flowers and fragrance.

We have held fast to the rope of the firmest handhold,

So may neither the dissenter nor the habitual liar live!
