From the forest of oppression, beasts of prey set out by night,

when no night traveler has the strength to journey by night.

A forest that brought forth nothing but beasts

that crave chewing the livers of little ones.

They emerged from the forest of oppression by day,

as though it were evening, and by evening as though it were day.

They wore two robes: one of glitter

that deceives people, and another of rabid frenzy.

    Their fangs revealed inner stirrings

that love oppression and yearn for destruction.

They devour the green and the dry, pelting

everyone they meet on the road with fire.

They have neither feeling nor reason to show them

the harm brought by the destruction of homes.

Whenever a garden's trees appear before them,

flourishing, they lay siege to them.

And they go on uprooting the trees until

they reach their goal of harvesting the fruit.

They set fire to the field in which they graze,

    then leave it without apology.

They love spreading corruption on earth and refuse

to see any land but their own flourishing.

They come to the spring and never leave

without it lamenting pollution and depletion.

Perhaps they show mercy by killing a child,

and clothe a naked person's body in the robe of death.

Perhaps they are tender toward people—but

    with missiles and fission devices.

And when they lavish affection, they drop

clusters of death into every home.

Perhaps they are kind to their neighbor—but

with what they do so well: being bad neighbors.

O beasts of the black forest, we

no longer dispute the evil of your nightly course.

Between your fangs lie the torn remains of victims,

and both corners of your mouth bear traces of red.

Everyone on this earth sees it

with their own eyes, after the veil is torn away.

Rejoice in illusion; swagger in conceit.

Run riot in the sky; dive into the seas.

You will receive from God a recompense

that comes swiftly and casts you into the fire of ruin.

Rejoice, O forest of oppression, at tidings of fear

and a plunge into calamities, and defeat.

The oppressor's might is a road to tragedies,

on which he ends up in humiliation and disgrace.

Oppression is nothing but the road to death, whatever

illusion of victory the oppressor may achieve.
