This drizzle speaks its message to me,
caressing my face, coming and going.
كأنِّيas though I بهwith it لوif أدركَunderstood الصَّخْرthe rock سرَّهits secret
وأبصرand saw ماwhat أبصرتُI saw منهof it لذاباit would melt
I imagine that, if rock understood its secret
and saw what I have seen in it, it would melt.

حديثَthe speech of مُحِبٍّa lover مُدْنفٍlovesick فأصاباand hit the mark
A light drizzle: I think the clouds fashioned it
as a lovesick lover's words—and hit the mark.
رذاذٌa drizzle كأنفاسِlike the breaths of الأزاهيرِthe blossoms حينماwhen

A drizzle like the breath of blossoms when
they stretch their necks toward the morning light.

Like the rhythm of flower petals stirred
by a breeze that glides around them in youthful play.
كضحكةِlike the laugh of طفلٍa child ضمَّهُembraced him صدْرُthe breast of أُمِّهِhis mother
لهاit has نغمٌa melody عذبٌsweet يزيلُdispels عذاباsuffering
Like the laugh of a child clasped to his mother's breast,
with a sweet melody that dispels suffering.
كراحةِlike the palm of أُمٍّa mother لامَستْtouched رأسَthe head of طفلِهاher child
وأسقتْهُand gave him to drink منfrom نبعْthe spring of الحنانِtenderness رضاباsweet saliva
Like the palm of a mother who touched her child's head
and gave him nectar from the wellspring of tenderness.
رذاذٌa drizzle كأنِّيas though I بالسَّحابِwith the clouds يزفٌّهُescorts it
حنيناًin longing إلىtoward أرضٍa land تُحِبُّloves سحاباclouds
A drizzle: I imagine the clouds escorting it
in longing toward a land that loves the clouds.

It touches my face softly, gently,
and lifts a veil from the face of serenity.
ويُغْلِقٌand closes بابَthe door of الهَمِّworry دونَaway from مشاعِريmy feelings
ويفتحُand opens ليfor me نحوtoward السعادةِhappiness باباa door
and closes the door of worry to my feelings,
and opens for me a door toward happiness.

A drizzle that graced the gardens' face with freshness
and added youth to the youth of the towering trees.
كأنِّيas though I بمعنىwith the essence of الحُسنِbeauty جُمِّعَwas gathered كُلُّهُall of it

I seem to see beauty's whole essence gathered
to be dissolved within this drizzle.
لقدindeed طارَflew بيwith me هذاthis الجمالُbeauty فلمand did not أعُدْI return
أرىI see الأرضَthe earth أرْضاًearth والرِّحابand the open spaces رحاباopen spaces
Indeed, this beauty has borne me aloft; I no longer
see earth as earth, or open spaces as open spaces.
فقدتُI lost صوابيmy reason ؟؟ ربَّماperhaps كانَwas فقدُهُlosing it
هناhere ، عندَat إيقاعِthe rhythm of الرَّذاذِthe drizzle ، صواباsound judgment
Have I lost my reason? Perhaps losing it
here, to the rhythm of the drizzle, was sound judgment.
إلىto أينَwhere ياO هذاthis الجمالُbeauty تسُوقنيyou lead me
تُرانيdo you think I سألْقىI shall find للسؤالِto the question جواباan answer ؟!
Where, O beauty, are you leading me?
Will I, I wonder, find an answer to the question?
ألاAh! يارذاذَO drizzle of السُّحبِthe clouds أرجوكَI beg you مُهْلةًa respite

Ah, drizzle of the clouds, I beg you for a respite,
so that my mind, absent since I saw you, may return.

Return me to the balance of my judgment and my wisdom,
and my awareness; do not take my love by force.

Exalted is He who gave you beauty and radiance,
so you became a book of wondrous beauty.
رأيتُI saw جلالthe majesty of اللهGod فيin كُلِّevery قطْرةٍdrop
فلولاهُfor without Him ماnot أحياbrought to life الرَّذاذُthe drizzle تُراباdust
I saw the majesty of God in every drop;
for without Him, the drizzle would not have brought dust to life.
ولولاهُand without Him ماnot ألْقىpoured out السَّحابُthe cloud شُجونَهُits sorrows
رذاذاًas drizzle ، وأرْخىand lowered راحَتيهِits two palms وطَاباand felt content
And without Him, the cloud would not have poured out its sorrows
as drizzle, lowered its two palms, and found contentment.
ولولاهُand without Him ماnot كُنَّاwe were نُحِسُّwe feel بماwhat نرىwe see
سماءًsky وأرْضاًand earth ، ظُلْمةًdarkness وشِهاباand a shooting star
And without Him, we would not feel what we behold:
sky and earth, darkness and a shooting star.

So glory be to You, O God, in every moment
in which I hope to receive a reward.
