وإني لفي ضيقٍ من العيش منكودِ

I see people living in ease and comfort

while I am indeed living in wretched hardship.

While I live in hardship and distress

وما ذاك إلا حظُّهُم متيقظ

وحظّي أمسى نام نومة عبّود

وحظّي أمسى نام نومة عبّود

That is only because their luck is awake,

That is just because their fortune is awake

while my luck has fallen asleep, sleeping the sleep of ʿAbbūd.
