Glad tidings to you of honor, might, and eminence,

And glory, lofty above Capella, firmly established.

Glad tidings to you: this rising star of good fortune has appeared,

Shining on glory’s horizon as though ablaze.

Glad tidings to you: this age has come to you obediently,

And approached submissively with renewed honor.

And generously granted what you had hoped would happen,

And in what it gave, made every purpose plain.

And you won the Khunkar’s favor, for you have never ceased

To surpass, in perfection, lord after lord.

So you were made governor of Kirkuk; even had you been governor

Over al-Sham, or al-Aziz’s Egypt and Thamhad,

It would be paltry beside your stature, for it has

A dais of glory firmly established above Farqad.

But glad tidings! It is surely the forerunner of the

Vizierate, for it will truly come to you tomorrow.

And from it you will don the robe of honor, singing aloud,

And through it inhabit a noble seat—what a seat!

Kirkuk has indeed become safe from a traitor’s onslaught,

Through you; thanks to you, it now stands within a lofty fortress.

And was protected from defilements since your justice settled there,

As though a riotous drunkard’s intoxication had seized it.

And strutted proudly as it boasted, having now become

Like Baghdad in safety during the days of Ahmad.

So it came to be, with justice’s light dispelling its darkness,

And condemning humankind’s oppression to dissolution.

So joy’s turtledove warbled amid bliss,

On the bough of joys, with the loveliest song.

And began to recite across the horizons, warbling:

Indeed, in Shahrazur is the glory of Muhammad’s justice.
