A greeting like the garden’s blossoms has come
to bear a wafting fragrance unlike perfume;
سلامa greeting مثلlike عِقدa necklace الدرِّthe pearls نظماًin arrangement (verse)
سلام مثل عِقد الدرِّ نظماً
يتمُّis perfected بنشرهthrough its spreading أدبrefinement الأديبthe man of letters
يتمُّ بنشره أدب الأديب
a greeting, strung in verse like a necklace of pearls,
through whose spreading the man of letters’ refinement is perfected,
علىupon الشيخthe sheikh الوفيthe faithful أبيAbu (father of) المعاليal-Ma‘ali (lofty honors)
على الشيخ الوفي أبي المعالي
إمامimam المتقينthe God-fearing عليAli النجيبيal-Najibi
إمام المتقين علي النجيبي
upon the faithful sheikh, Abu al-Ma‘ali,
imam of the God-fearing, Ali al-Najibi.
