Why is your beloved inclined to estrangement?

Then how long will you neglect the one who loves you?

And why do your glances shoot arrows at me?

Have I failed to recognize your worth? Enough for me, O archer!

If you are unjust under the law of love,

then surely you stray from the path of young gazelles.

O peerless one—the mole has made his beauty universal,

and the temple-lock has renewed what he may attain.

    فعلام إنك عن وصالي حائل

    Indeed, by your life, I do not turn away from you;

then why is it that you turn away from union with me?

Have you seen any flaw in me besides love’s burning anguish?

Or, because of it, have you listened to what the reproacher says?

If you hear anything disparaging from someone,

disbelieve him, for he is ignorant of all my affairs.

Then if the slanderers recount the tale of my delirium,

take the opposite: your beloved is sane.

And if disparagement of me reaches you from someone deficient,

it is testimony in my favor that I am perfect.
